Introducing Streaks, Calendar View, and Exercise Video Controls
We're excited to launch a set of new features designed to improve habit formation, engagement, and the workout viewing experience for your users. New features include:
- Streaks & Calendar View to strengthen habit formation
- Exercise Video Controls for smoother workouts
- Improved Progressions UX for additional flexibility & user clarity
- Added in-app alerts for failed payments to improve payment recovery rates
Streaks & Calendar View
Workout logs have been upgraded with a new calendar view, giving members a clear, birds-eye-view look of their activity. Along with this, we've introduced Streaks to reinforce habit formation and add an extra layer of motivation.
How streaks work
Streaks are designed around weekly consistency:
- Each user sets a weekly training goal (e.g. 2, 3, or more workout days per week)
- The default goal is 2 days per week, and this can be adjusted by users
- Every day a user completes a workout, it counts towards that week's goal
At the end of each week:
- If the user meets or exceeds their weekly goal, their streak increases by 1 week
- If they don't hit their goal, the streak resets
Streaks will be displayed on the "Logs" page, which now has an additional easy-access button at the top-right of the "Home page".
We hope streaks empower users to set goals, stay consistent, and build habits that support long-term progress, helping drive stronger retention and ongoing engagement with your app.
Exercise Video Controls
We have added playback controls for exercise videos inside workouts, allowing users to:
- Pause & play exercise videos by tapping the center of the video
- Seek forward/backward by dragging the seekbar at the bottom of the screen. To minimize UI clutter, the seekbar will briefly show to users, then fade when not in use
We've also improved video caching for faster load times and reduced data usage.
Improved Progressions UX
We've made progressions more flexible and easier to manage, especially for more advanced programming scenarios. While the core progression system remains the same, we've updated the progression selection experience and added support for setting separate progressions for exercises that appear multiple times within the same workout. These updates are designed to provide greater clarity around when changes are saved permanently versus applied only to the current workout or exercise instance.
In-App Failed Payment Alerts
In addition to the existing payment failure emails we send to users, we have added in-app alerts as another way to recover failed payments. This is an extra touchpoint to decrease the likelihood of Stripe automatically canceling the subscription after 5 payment attempt failures.
When first opening the app after a payment has failed, users will now receive an alert that will help direct them to the Stripe Billing Portal to update & review payment information. Once dismissed by the member, the alert will be hidden for 7 days.
Similarly, until users have successfully renewed, an additional message will appear in the Membership section of the Settings page to let them know their recent payment failed.
We hope these additional alerts will increase failed payment recovery rates & make it easier for users to update their payment information in a timely manner.
Summary
This release focuses on helping users stay consistent and engaged. Streaks and Calendar View make progress easier to track, enhanced video controls create a smoother workout experience, updated progressions improve workout customization, and in-app payment alerts help reduce churn through faster payment recovery.
